CATCH UP WITH ALLEGIANCE RANCH! It’s been a long, hard winter, and horses and humans alike are enjoying green grass and milder temperatures. We were fortunate to make it through the frigid winter temps and the Bomb Cyclone without too much damage and healthy horses. There’s a lot to catch up on since our last newsletter, but we’ll try to keep it brief!

WELCOME TWO SOCKS
On New Year’s Day we received a call from a horse owner in distress. He could no longer care for his horse and was desperate to find a safe place for him. We welcomed Two Socks, aptly named for the socks on his hind legs, to the Allegiance Ranch herd a few days later. Socks is a 25-year-old Quarterhorse gelding. He’s sweet as can be although a bit impatient at meal times. We discovered on intake that his teeth were worn down to the gums, making it unsafe for him to eat grass hay. He’s now on a diet of hay pellets and senior grain, and doing quite nicely. Two Socks needs a sponsor! He’s also available to the right home as a companion horse.
PARTNERSHIP WITH THE COMMUNITY PROJECT
We’ve been fortunate to partner with another local non-profit called The Community Project who are supporting Allegiance Ranch by creating quality videos to help us promote our mission. Please visit our Allegiance Ranch Facebook page or the Allegiance Ranch YouTube Channel to check out our latest videos!
2019 ROCKY MOUNTAIN HORSE EXPO
We had a great showing at the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo again this year and were pleased to meet many new friends and volunteers! Thanks to those of you who signed up for this newsletter and if you expressed an interest in volunteering, we’d love to see you here at the ranch. Our next Volunteer Orientation is scheduled for Saturday, May 18that 10:00 a.m. Congratulations to Mia G. who was the winner of the raffle prize/gift basket.
SUCCESSFUL COUPLES HORSEMANSHIP CLINIC
We were honored to host three couples representing veteran and active duty military at our horsemanship clinic on March 31st. Each couple had the opportunity to groom, lead, round pen, and ride during the clinic. The feedback from our participants was very positive and they enjoyed spending time together as couples and with the horses. Our next Horsemanship Clinic for Veterans and First Responders is scheduled for July 13, 2019 and in September we’ll again be hosting our Women’s Horsemanship Clinic.
SPECIAL GROUPS VISIT THE RANCH
We were honored to host the kindergarten class from Flagstaff Academy Charter School and a volunteer work crew from Up With People. We love having groups visit the ranch and introducing them to our mission and our herd of rescue horses. If you know of a school group or organization that would like to visit the ranch or schedule a work day, please have them contact us!
Sweet Stella has gone to her forever home! One of our wonderful Allegiance community members, Brianna Dropinski, fell in love with Stella last fall. These two were meant to be, as they just couldn’t shake the special bond they share. Last month Stella moved to her new home with Brianna and is thriving! Congratulations to Brianna and Stella.
We have some love bug horses looking for their forever homes. If you’re looking for a senior/companion horse or a project horse, please let us know! We’d be happy to share information about our pocket pals and see if anyone is a match for you.
HAY GUYS! WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The horses are asking for your help with raising funds to refill the hay barn! Any and all donations in any amount will help. Please check out our Crowdrise Fundraiser at https://www.crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/hay-for-rescue-horses and do what you can to help. Hay is imperative to the health of our horses and is by far our largest expense. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization we rely on and need donations to keep the ranch going. We offer our programs and access to the ranch free of charge to veterans, first responders, and their families. Please help us keep doing so! Thank you!
