Job Title: Military Veteran Board Member

Mission Statement: Our mission is to help horses and heroes by offering a safe place for healing, developing a sense of purpose, and establishing meaningful connections between horses and humans.
Position Summary: Allegiance Ranch is seeking a dedicated and experienced military veteran to join the board of directors for our 501(c)3 non profit organization. The Military Veteran Board Member will play a crucial role in guiding our organization’s strategic direction and helping to ensure that we continue to fulfill our mission to provide support to both horses in need and veterans seeking therapeutic experiences through equine-assisted activities and programs. Note: This is a volunteer, unpaid position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with fellow board members to set the organization’s strategic goals and objectives, ensuring alignment with our mission and vision.
Advocacy and Networking: Utilize your military background and connections to advocate for our organization within the veteran community, helping to raise awareness and support.
Financial Oversight: Review and provide input on financial reports, budgets, and fundraising strategies to ensure the organization’s financial stability.
- Governance: Actively participate in board meetings, committees, and decision-making processes, while upholding the highest standards of governance and ethics.
- Resource Development: Assist in identifying potential funding sources, partners, and donors, and contribute to fundraising efforts as needed.
- Program Evaluation: Provide insights and feedback on the effectiveness of our veteran support programs, equine-assisted activities, and offer suggestions for improvements.
- Community Engagement: Engage with the local community, veterans, and supporters to strengthen relationships and promote the organization’s mission.
Qualifications:
- Honorable discharge from the military.
- Strong passion for our mission and a genuine desire to support both horses and veterans.
- Leadership experience within the military or in a civilian capacity.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of nonprofit governance, financial management, or relevant experience.
- Ability to commit time and effort to actively participate in board meetings and organizational activities.
Term and Time Commitment:
- The Military Veteran Board Member position typically asks for a two-year commitment, but is also non-binding. The length of commitment is ultimately based on member constraints and mutual board decisions.
- Board meetings are held monthly on the second Tuesday of each month, unless revised by mutual consent.
- In addition to meetings, there may be additional time commitments for committee work, events, and networking. Board members are encouraged to participate in volunteer efforts as time allows but at least one Saturday per month.
